ENIGMA, THE MISTRESS OF DISGUISE speaks to the artificiality of "people", in general. On a very simple basis, I think it is fair to say, "Women, to most men, are an enigma." That makes a female figure a meaningful way to communicate a more general thought. Although this representation may be considered an exaggeration, we all put on whatever persona is pertinent to the situation we are in. Who knows and can truthfully say what (or who) is real? The entire sculpture, including the base, is carved from a single butternut log. Close to 5 feet tall. |
